7 Reasons You Shouldn’t Charge by the Hour

Here is a great article by Matthew Griffin on Bits O’ New Media about the benefits of flat-rate billing. At Impulse we practice flat rate billing and the following article just about sums up why. Occasionally we do charge by the hour but that is rare and is usually reserved for small website udpates.

  1. It’s time consuming
  2. It makes clients nervous
  3. It encourages lower productivity
  4. It lends itself to tedious website update work
  5. It doesn’t stop feature creep
  6. It severely cripples billing potential
  7. It encourages clients to abuse you
